Batam Medical Mission

This is truly my very first medical mission and I must admit that I enjoyed it immensely. Althought it was just a short 2 days, 1 night medical mission, I thought we did accomplish a lot from basic health education to medical consultations and the prescription of multi-vitamins and medication. I helped out with the dispensary and not only did pharmacology came alive for me, I could actually feel the warmth (not literally) of the people as they shook our hands after receiving their medication.

Everyone worked well together even though it was the very first time we worked together as a team. I think I got to know everyone in the team better. It was also heartening to see a junior (M2) and a would be junior (M-1) hopping on board to spread the love. Surprisingly, this trip made me even more interested in orthopaedics which I did not expect to find it here.

On a more leisurely front, the 3 meals we had were really tantalising. Nasi Padang served in the traditional Indonesian way, seafood as well as a wedding buffet. The spread of food were eye openers but all very satisfying. Not to forget the tasty dounuts which is much lighter than those found in the tropical island as well as the A&W root beer float! Well, curly fries were out of stock though.

Without doubt, I would definitely return to help in the coming months!

Meanwhile, it is time for pathology!
