Enrichment.

Sometimes, Hongkong paparazzi magazines can really be a source of educational enrichment. Just today, I came across this article which I thought was very interesting. Highlighted a certain medical condition found in children;

Trichotillomania.

It is normally found in boys aged 8 or above and girls aged 12 and above. Presentation is such that there is involuntary or uncotrolled hair plucking by the child resulting in bald patches. The bald patches can be normal, red or pus-filled. In severe conditions, patients may eat the hair and result in intestinal blockade.

What about the aetiology a.k.a causes? Basically, stress! The article highlighted a high-flying Primary 5 girl who tops the class every year and being sent for piano, swimming and diving lessons.

The recommended treatment is via SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) which basically treat depression in adults.

Poor children nowadays!

Where is real playtime?
