First day of school was disastrous. Felt it was so difficult to keep awake in class since it was midnight in Aberdeen. The lecturer words simply flew past me, in fact they gave me a very bad headache! Oh well! Jetlag! Managed to catch Napola (German Film) between the last lesson and THE talk in the evening. It is a very disturbing show yet it portrays life as it is. Do catch it!
Edinburgh Departed Aberdeen for Edinburgh in the wee hours of the morning of 4th August. The ride was 3 hours with a stop at Dundee and transfer of bus at Perth. Edinburgh gave me the impression as a city which is extremely vibrant, buzzing with activities, yet preserving its old heritage. Walked the whole of the Royal Mile and discovered the city's treasures like the Holyroode Palace and the Edinburgh castle. Most notably, we visited the Mary King's Close. It is interesting to note that 60% of the people in the past lived underground and the "alleys" between concrete are called closes. We actually managed to visit one of those closes preserved as it was. Fantastic! The night was spent in some backpacker hostel which had a lot of people who are mostly drunk. Quite an experience.
Scottish Highlands We signed up with this agency called Haggis Adventures for this 3 days 2 nights trip. It was got a very cute yellow bus for the 20 odd of us. There were Irish, Italian, German, Canadians, Taiwanese, Spanish, American and us. A mini-UN in a bus! The beauty of the Scottish highlands can hardly be typed into words, I would be doing it a great injustice if I do so, hence pictures will be up in Part 5! Most of the time in the bus ride, I would have fallen asleep within 5 minutes so I sort of missed quite a lot of mountains, clouds and valleys. The hostels in Isle of Skye as well as Loch Ness were very good. Cosy and extremely comfortable! All of us had lots of fun touring the whole of Scottish highlands and visiting historical sites along the way such as the Eileen Donan Castle and the Culloden Site. There was also the Cullen Skink soup which is very filling and delicious!
One interesting incident of note is that the Spanish couple actually pointed out that the eldest in our group who is actually 23 was mistaken as only 15 years old! If she is 15, then I guess I am very much 14!
