Eyes shutting.

Just watched a RTHK produced programme on HK television. Anyway, it was an interview with one of the dean of a local medical school who quit after SARS and joined a University in Papua New Guinea as a Professor of Surgery. A little history from the programme, he was the one who went against the medical authorities to write directly to the media fearing a community outbreak of SARS. Alright, so now he is happy at Papua New Guinea training doctors to be. He mentioned something that triggered this post,

"Doctors here do look at patients while clerking but doctors back home prefer to look at the computer screen."

Well, the reason why I wanted to venture into the medical field was for the human touch. Hopefully, the computer will not be my best friend when I really do practice in the future.

Emails have been flooding my mailbox regarding the humanitarian effort by the University and medical society. Glad to see that there is this sense of genuine warmth in a background of sorrow. Sadly, I cannot participate in any of the efforts but my spirit shall be with them.

On a lighter note, paid a touristy visit to the new Greek Mythology Casino here. Was swept away by the Greeky decorations that greeted us. Statues statues everywhere. Not to mention the millions of paintings. Waiters and waitresses were dressed in greek attire (you know that white robe and leaves on the head?) and they got caucasians to do it. Guess they are really trying to create a Greek atmosphere.

Unfortunately, all was spoilt by eyes shutting (for me and children) scantily dressed Russian ladies doing a cabaret show with yellow and black feathers. When I mean scantily dressed, they are really very scatnily dressed. Well, they are just doing a job well done and getting 3 meals for themselves. So I guess it is alright.

But I wonder if their parents know.

What a strange World.
