Early Admissions Scheme....

Or EAS is actually a scheme for outstanding students with fantastic HKCEE (equivalent to O levels here) to apply to enter University. In other words, this means that they will bypass A levels and enter University when they are still in JC 1. The minimum requirement to satisfy the basic entrance is that for HK Universities, at least 6As and Chinese Universities (those in China), at least 4As. Um....this is not the main point that I am trying to say here.

So Peking University and Tsinghua University are now both in HK trying to attract the best students to their respective school. Of course, promising applicants are given an interview in Mandarin (Putonghua). However, one of the guidelines for acceptance is that the students must show that they are all for the "One Country, Two Systems" and they must be familiar and compliant to the Basic Law. Hmm...I always dislike the fact that politics is slowly creeping into all areas of the community in HK. First it was economy, then businesses and now academic. Thougn insignificant, I really find the above guideline disturbing. I am not a die-hard fan of the democratic movement but I am definitely a keen supporter for neutrality in the academic field and many other aspects of the community. Maybe they are just afraid of a June-fourth re-enactment. Nevertheless, I do agree that stability is very vital, but I am sure there are other ways to achieve it than by using tankers or an hardline approach.

Anyway, I tried to bring forward my appointment to this week due to many several reasons but, I was denied because for the month of June, the Orthopaedic clinics are fully booked.

urgh..
