Spent the whole afternoon feasting at KFC followed by some reading at Bukit Merah Community Library. Somehow, the latter has been where I often go to on Saturdays after work. Guess it is the nearest library to KFC/McDonalds/Bukit Merah Central. hehe.....
Came across this book from the reference section "Who's Who in Singapore" published in the Year 2000. Well, I know many will not venture such a book, but somehow.....I read it. hahah........
Noticed some interesting trends in the "Who's Who in Singapore";
1) Most people depicted inside are Dr, either PhDs or medical doctors.
2) Most are migrants from Malaysia (Malaya), Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and India. Some became residents only in the early 90s!
3) The bulk of them are from ACS, RI, SJI, Catholic High. Surprisingly, many are from Chung Cheng High, CHIJ schools (Victoria St/KC/TP).
4) Most of them graduated from universities overseas. With a handful from HKU! (eg. Dr Aline Wong, Ms Claire Chiang and so on). Also, most who went overseas went to Australia then (60s-80s).
5) Yes, obviously, most are scholars! Be it, President's Scholar, PSC, Colombo Plan, Queens' Scholar and blah blah blah.......
6) You may find it interesting to find some of those people depicted inside started their career as....Cameraman in a TV station in HK while others were reading the weather forecast for the radio.
7) At least 10 are Cancerians.....hmm.......
Now, this book is really an inspiration.
Maybe, I can really contribute to Singapore as well.......
