At this very hour, thousands of people might be leaving Singapore through the infamous Changi Aiport. At this very minute, many might have bid farewell to their beloved as they embarked on a new chapter in their life, be it a short story or a novel. And at this very second, as you read this, you doubt my sanity for typing the above. Well..Well...Well...I am fine.
Some day in December, 2003:
A friend, called L, left for UBC to begin her 6 month stint as an international exchange student. I did not send her off due to committments to the nation. Surely, she is enjoying herself and learning a new experience. Glad that she is so far very happy over there and may she continue to share such happiness with those right here, in this tiny tropical island, while she brave the snow. hehe....
3rd January, 2004:
My grandparents left Singapore for Hongkong. Whether they will return or not, is still a big question mark. They prefer to return to their roots and so they say. I guess, I will return to Macau when I grow old as well....hmm....
Today. 10th January, 2004:
Another friend of mine, called C will leave Singapore as well. Is back to the land of Kangaroos for her. Perth otherwise known as Mini Singapore, they called it. Heard that she is doing very well and one thing to be relieved about is that her boyfriend for numerous years will be joining her in February. Sadly, not in Perth, but in Sydney. Is the same country after all, right?
12th January, 2004:
Yes, G. You are so fortunate. Being able to go to Pennsylvannia, some L university for your exchange. Um...how nice to study in another country even though it might be for only half a year?
13th January, 2004:
J will be leaving for Cambridge, UK on that day. She is the only one that has been shuttling in and out of Singapore for the past years she is there. Seems nothing much has changed, glad that there is at least an outing everytime she returns.
23rd January, 2004:
Yet another friend, A will be leaving for Cornell in the US. She only appeared once, this time, after spending two years there. All because of the hefty airfares and the long and tedious 24 hours ++ airplane ride. Wonder when she will return after this time?
5th February, 2004:
Yes, classmate J. Leaving for Adelaide to do Medicine. Um...now that he is enjoying his leave at home, getting ready to start his term there, wonder what is in his mind. haha...at least, we might even become colleagues in the not so near future.....haha.....guess that he will return to Singapore often..since he is also a Cancerian, supposedly, homely.
Just in a short span of time, so many are leaving. Some for a while, some for a very long time. I used to hope that I can commence an overseas studies too. Imagine the excitement....but, I know there is a pain too. A pain often masked by the grandeur of such an affair.
