Having done an 8 weeks of surgical posting, together with another 8 weeks of orthopaedics postings, I realised that I have never scrubbed in for any OT before. Would most of the time think that there is always another chance somewhere, somehow. Anyway, the doctors were rather appalled by that. I was appalled myself as well!
So of all postings, I scrubbed in for ENT or Otorhinolaryngology, what a very cool name! haha! It was truly an embarrassing time but it was minor okay! Well, it was Friday the 13th anyway!
Green is for Sterile! Sterile! Sterile! I was told to prepare myself a pair of gloves and placed it on the table. I did. But the wrong way. I was rather touched by the junior doctor, T, who did not even scold me but kept saying nevermind. He taught me to scrub in step by step all the way till donning of that pair of sterile gloves. I guess, you will remember such things for life and be forever grateful.
I guess today was the only time I felt the most useful in my whole entire clinical life so far. Even though it was just only holding the retractor, it was a neccessity and thus the usefulness! I never knew a close up view of an op was actually that exhiliarating until today.
Hooray!
On a sidenote, my electives with Taiwan has been confirmed! 2 months of Taiwanese food, drama and learning! haha
