HKU is located at Pokfulam and it is built on the Mid-Levels of a mountain. The Faculty of Medicine is so out of the way such that you can only reach there by Mini-Van through lots of narrow winding roads up the mountain. Alright, I love that place a lot!! Every tutorial room has an unobstructed sea-view with full view ceiling to floor glass panels. It is quiet and the building is very very modern. Lifts actually have the Faculty of Medicine Badge engraved. The entrance is actually those rotational doors you see in hotels! um....I was totally impressed. Really hope to be part of the family now. That is, given the chance....haha...
About the interview...
The interviewees like myself were like a mini United Nations. Two from Singapore, one from Malaysia, one from USA, one from Canada and one from Australiat. Some of them do have the right of abode in Hong Kong. Two of them finished a degree and one even finished his masters!! Threat!
I was fourth to go into the interview room. The first three took like between 15 to 20 minutes. However, mine took only 7 to 10 minutes. The interviewers were two very nice lady professors. The only part that was in Cantonese was when I was asked which are the three news articles that I am most concerned with. Actually, I felt at ease and felt I managed to answer everything. hmm...somehow, I was told along the way that there are many Singapore students being rejected by NUS Med applying to HKU so they find it puzzling that I am applying and cited that NUS Med is equally prestigious.....
I gave them my reason why I still came to HK which is to gain international exposure while we are still young as we only live our life once and they were convinced. I also say that I could bring in Singapore culture and share. haha.... At least, I felt that they were convinced. I was also asked if I have or can apply for right of abode in Hong Kong. hmm...told them that there is such a possibility. Then there came a point that they felt that they were asking too many questions and wanted me to ask them instead...haha
In the end, I was told this vague statement;
"Seriously, you will do well anywhere you go."
Alright, is that a hint that I should stay in Singapore??
